Creativity...Paul Staley

slip transfer

I showed a transfer process today where you use printed copies and underglazes. This technique often has the step where slip is painted on top of the image before it is transferred. Here is a variation that takes advantage of the wheel....

I found the most wonderful video on you tube, but am having trouble linking it. When you go on you tube... type in Throwing/ Pulling/ Lifting Cylinder  step by step with Hsin-Chue. It will show you how to raise walls and refresh your hand positions in an interesting way.

Here's some cups

1. I like this mug because it was created with a slab carved into prior to sealing it
2. Organic shape and only black and white
3. I like the raw look of the clay and the light blue glaze
4. i really like that the bottom is matte
5. I like the shape and the glaze - smooth - as well as the lack of a handle
6. Lack of handle and more of an organic shape - also the glaze
7. I like the glaze and the divots in the side
8. Organic shape/glaze

9. I like the cup shape and the foot

10. I like the carved out section - looks like the wiggle wire technique but straight down
11. I like the shape and the markings - also the handle
12. Blocks of color and a fun handle
13. The organic shape and straight handle

TEN CUPS! WOOP!

I like the shape of the cup and the flower design. I'm not sure if she used stencils or free hand with glaze but I like the overlapping and the structure
I really enjoy the bohemian design on this cup. the black and white make a good contrast
the shape of the mugs and the splatter are awesome
dripping glaze always gives an appealing look to the bugs. I like the combination of the brown light blue and cobalt blue. the base of the bug is pretty original
I have previously used a pair of lace leggings to make a print on my clay and I really enjoyed it
one again, the dripping of the clay and the contrast between that and the original texture and color of the clay is a good combo.
 relief work is cool.
the mason jar is becoming a common household item and i think making one our of ceramic gives it a more artsy tone
stencil and glaze work is great. the general shape of the mug is pretty versatile
love the relief or the carving. pretty original.

Beatrice Wood's forms appear deceivingly simple yet, very intriguing. I'm curious to attempt to make them. With the work of Betty Woodman it was her use of color that drew my attention as well as the scale of her work. The other two cups seen are were just more unusual and I had never seen anything like them before. The one on the bottom in particular looks to be piece made with the joints still visible. I wonder if that is actually the case.
